Dour expressions on the road

    There are some soor-faced folk cycling about town these days. I always try to interact with people when waiting in traffic (drunks in the back of taxis are the best for a response) but I've been a bit disappointed by the reaction on my commute down Leith Walk. I suppose it's a bit of a grim road but still...

    Appreciate your efforts, but it can be hard to be chipper on a bike anywhere in the vicinity of Leith Walk!

    TFP and I have a bit of a laugh trying to coax even a flicker of acknowledgement from some of our regulars. Between race-face trainers and Mr Grumpy it's a sair fecht.

    Also remember that not everybody can be agreeably sociable on demand on zero notice, especially in a situation where it's not always possible to clearly make out what someone has said, or whether they're expecting a pro forma or genuine response.
