Use of the phrase "revert back" is poor journalism - bus lanes have only ever been 24hr, on-peak or something like 8-6.30 Mon-Sat.
At least it does clarify 'subject to public consultation.'
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Ah!
As I said before, shame LB didn’t object in the past.
Appears I was wrong, apologies.
It is indeed a "full public consultation"...
Good news, but why do they need to consult? They didn't consult before making all bus lanes peak only. Glasgow already has 7-7 bus lanes, and has for a while. Did they consult? Maybe, but I doubt it: reckon they just got on with it and "set aside" the inevitable objections to the TRO.
“but why do they need to consult? ”
Suspect some councillors need to look ‘democratic’.
One day CEC will get Consultation Fatigue...
5 years later -
“
Public consultation on introducing 7am to 7pm bus lanes operating seven days a week will begin tomorrow (Thursday 31 October).
“
Odd to do all the press before the consultation is actually out. Cynically you might wonder if this is to avoid knee-jerk responses (which is probably fair enough, to be honest.)
I was able to fill out the consultation this afternoon: https://consultationhub.edinburgh.gov.uk/sfc/bus-lane-operational-hours/consultation/intro/
Oh. I retract my hypothetical cynicism.
@EdinburghCycleCam thanks for link.
Very short survey so takes about 3 mins to fill in.
Worth doing.
Done.
Please ensure you mention that along with bus lanes being operational 7/7/7 we need parking restrictions* (& suitably enforced) so the bus lanes are available for their authorised users.
*Parking rules are independent of the bus lane rules (& subject to TROs I believe), but worth making the point.

I forgot to say that really if they're making them 7-7 they may as well make then 24hours and remove all confusion (and simplify the signs!) So if you agree maybe say that too. They won't but it's worth establishing that there's support for such a move in the future.
@jonty - Yup, that was my comment too - to remove any confusion around 7am / 7pm, and outside those times the roads are quiet enough that general traffic shouldn't be impacted by not being able to drive in them anyway.

Don't forget to add that we don't want electric cars to be allowed to use bus lanes....
I don’t think this will be that helpful on its own. Most bus lanes out of the city centre have significant amounts of off-peak parking which, if not changed, makes changes the new hours pretty meaningless if there’s cars parked there.
I think it would work nicely on Calder Road and the city centre though.
Grumble grumble missing Leith Street bus lanes...
“ Grumble grumble missing Leith Street bus lanes...”
Indeed.
That’s the one I kept telling Lesley Hinds should be all day.
Made no difference obviously.
She did some good things in her time, but bus lanes really was pandering to the all powerful, secret, motor lobby.
Don’t think LB was in favour of reducing operating hours.
‘Problem’ was different lanes had different times so (apparently) motorists were getting confused/fined. Which, obviously wasn’t FAIR.
In practice it meant (in general) cars were kept out of lanes even when not restricted.
Which was mostly fine.
Reversing something that shouldn’t have been altered is unlikely to be easy.
This consultation culture is excessive.
Done, @jonty, but if the lanes are not 24 hours then how will the OLA's be able to overtaken the law abiding motorists?
On the occasions I drive I often rebel against the bus lanes times and stay out all the time.
Signed. I'd be in favour of 7am-7pm, Mon-Sat but I don't think there is enough bus traffic to warrant enforcing it on a Sunday (most services still run every 30 mins) unless they plan on significantly increasing bus frequency on Sundays.
I tend to avoid them even when they aren't being enforced when I'm in the car as they invariably have cars parked in them meaning you have to pull back out and rely on the charitable nature of other drivers.
