    Bárðarbunga volcano
    ERUPTION BRIEFING 29/8/14 1100hrs

    Summary
    • A ‘fissure’ eruption has commenced at Dyngjujokull (on open ground at this stage, NOT below glacier).
    • Aerial photography evidence does not discount further eruption sub-glacially, which could generate ash.
    • Aviation Code Red, all flights advised not to overfly in the meantime.
    • Aviation Code Yellow now also issued for Askja volcano to north of current eruption site (Aviation status map at bottom of briefing).
    • No ash production noted as yet.
    • 131 earthquakes since midnight.
    • Webcams going into overload as viewers try to access livestream viewing.

Pronounced "Pow-tharr-punka" and "Ting-yuh-yuhktl", I think, remembering Icelandic convention that stresses the first syllable. You should roll the 'r' a little bit. The double 'l' is spoken more like 'tl' and uses the tongue to make a click.

Bárðarbunga: means Bárðar's Bulge! Volcano named after a farmer a long time ago who try to settle in the area, but found it too tough and had to leave or starve, or be burnt to a crisp!
