I also lurk on a vw camper forum as I occasionally enjoy spending my weekends underneath them nominally trying to get somewhere nice. Some people I think don't realise how their stories will propagate on the internet - there is one here

I wonder how long it will be before one of the cyclists finds this post...

Apologies - I thought that was publicly accessible. Here is the post in question (by user called bhpdub - probably this incident happened near Nottingham)

    ===
A few weeks ago, I was in my Transhite tipper at work.
On a country lane, trying to get past a bunch of lycra clad 40 something's on their road bikes.
(I blame that bloody Bradley Wiggins, Chris Hoy and that Pembleton woman, and the bloody Olympic games)
Anyway, there were probably about 15-20 of them, completely taking up the road, and caring not one bit about traffic trying to pass them.
I was always taught that cyclists were supposed to ride in single file?
Anyway, this went on for the best part of a couple of miles or so, me sat in my truck, doing 15-20mph.
They knew I was there but couldn't give a toss.
Eventually, as I was passing them, I gave them a "toot" and shouted "single file" as I was alongside them.
To a man, they all gave me the finger, and the (f)lankers wave
    Big mistake.
When I was about 20 yeards in front, I stood my tranny on it's nose!
The view through the rear view mirror, of the bunch of big time charlie hard men, hitting their brakes, and crashing in to each other was hilarious!
No doubt a few grazed knee's, elbows and mangled road bikes! :rofl
Fluff em, the bunch of...You know what's!

They don't pay a penny in road tax, or insurance, etc .... Yet they think they own it.

**face palm** sure there would be a cracking witch hunt. I'd imagine there is some degree of hyperbole in his description.

indeed - it may be that this is entirely fictitious and he thought this story would be well received - needless to say it wasn't. I imagine if it is true then there will be some pretty vocal aggrieved cyclists on other forums, which was motivation to post this...

Summary: someone with zero idea of the rules of the road (or, indeed, the financing of roads) gets angry and deliberately causes an accident.

Sounds like a urban legend story

well - I probably stupidly got involved here. Actually not to react to this particular post, which I think everyone found disgraceful, but to object politely to the predictable "lycra lout, RLJ, no helmet, bla bla bla" rhetoric which started to prevail. I thought probably this story was indeed urban legend, but the original poster is sticking to his guns and insisting this is what happened….

The greatest thing about the angry stereotypes which come out in these circumstances is that they don't even make sense! Like complaining about boy racers going 20mph under the limit on the motorway.

I lurk on a local forum and see this sort of silly attitude, though this person should probably not be crowing on forums and just be glad an injured cyclist didn't call the police.

I have found that there are a group of people for whom if you are a cyclist, you are automatically wrong. If you are on a bike with drop bars and wearing lycra, doubly so.

I'm afraid it's autocorrect for transit on the vw forum - I think it's jealousy that your van starts and runs

Better to think it's all made up. If not, though, you can be take solice in that he's probably not just an idiot toward cyclists.

The fellow really knows his celeb cyclists, must say.
