Is it just me or do the roads the last couple of mornings seem very slippy.

This morning after coming down Ardmillan Terrace I started to take the right hander into Murieston...trying to scrub a bit of speed I knew leaning anymore was going to cause me to come off. A quick decision was needed and it was to stay upright.

Needless to say I then had to collide with a large bin to stop. Witnessed by a chap on a Brompton.

Don't worry Bruce, he'd have understood if he's on Kojaks - my Brompton has been "stepping out" on frolics of its own this week.

All recoverable (to date!), but causing a certain caution on cornering or crossing ironwork...

The ever-present fog makes everything seem wetter than you think. We came out of the Filmhouse on Saturday to saddles and bars that were damp but the ground was dry. It's quite deceptive.

The substances exuded by decaying leaves are very slidey.

I should possibly stop playing 'how far over can I lean the recumbent when cornering' then...

The tactile paving slabs have been really slippy the last few days, and I've been cornering very gingerly and avoiding anything metal looking since having some back wheel moments…

The decaying leaf stuff is known to motorcyclists as 'leaf jam'. It is indeed a passable lubricant.

I drifted the rear end of the ratty commuter at Morningside Cross this morning. The drivists were making informal pacts from which I and the highway code were excluded, leading to me braking and cornering at the same time in contravention of all the rules of two wheeled roadcraft.

I fell off on a slidy speed bump yesterday morning. Much less embarrassed now I know it's not just me slipping round all over the shop!

Had a hairy moment at a cyclist/ped crossing this morning, the combination of mud, 'leaf jam' and dimpled slabs proving a little too taxing for my semi-slick tyres, which decided straight-line travel was boring and collision with the post of the trafic lights was a much wilder and zanier end to my commute.

Mercifully I was trundling to a halt at about 3mph and had feet unclipped. The seagull who observed my slo-mo skid seemed unimpressed ('call that a skid mate?)

  10. Anyone else have trouble staying upright this morning or was it just me?

Had about 3 slides only just managing to hold on before I finally succumbed and came crashing down. This was commuting in from West Lothian and I have never felt it this bad before.

Only a few scrapes and bruises thankfully and I think the bike is fine.

Sorry to hear that galaxy. I hope rule 64 doesn't spoil your ride home.

I did think things were a little slippery but put it down to over zealous use of the rear brake. There was a lot of leaves on the path again though.
