Cycling through Dalmeny village lastnight I came to this junction. There was an ambulance parked facing the avenue, a paramedic car round the corner, a police office on the pavement, and a black small car parked in the middle of the chevron turning box, whose driver was returning to the car. As i passed behind him, he glared at me and shaking his head said something like stupid idiot.

There were two police marked cycles present, one in the road and one being wheeled off the road by the police officer.

No one else was present. Hope any injured person(s) are not injured.

The two police officers were still there by the time I passed although I didn't see anyone else.

It's not a nice junction as you approach you need to slow down and position yourself in the middle of the road on a blind bend. Once you can see round the bend you can the proceed. I've seen many drivers coming round too fast in the cyclist waiting area and just hope they never do that when I'm actually in the box.

The less legal alternative is to ride on the pavement from the previous junction.

Not that I'm jumping to conclusions in this case but I've seen a few riders cycle onto the opposite side of the road heading in the wrong direction on that junction, absolutely crazy.

Agreed, terrible junction - its not the first collision, and it wont be the last.

I used to do the advance pavement hop here, but eventually saw the light and switched route to Station Road instead.

bax, I may well start to use that route. More so because I'm getting sick of the near assault course round the gates there. Have fell off at slow speed a couple of times with my road bike which is not designed for 'off-roading!' and makes me look like a prat at the same time!

I went through that junction last night about 5.40pm. no sign of anything untoward. Apart from the A90 between Cramond Brig and the Cammo turn-off, it is the most unpleasant part of my commute. Parked cars round the corner make things more tricky as well in terms of visibility and cars travelling in the middle of the road.

Strangly enough I prefer it in winter as you can see vehicle's lights by looking right as you approach the junction.

Take a close look at Google Streetview on the primary road just around the corner and you'll see home made 'slow down' signs. Can I suggest that someone using this route regularly might talk to the local residents to find out more? When cyclists come together with non-cyclists to ask for change it's more powerful.

The "slow down" signs only operate around the school though, they don't seem to be anything to do with the corner.

Agreed it is a horrible junction though. I hate using it.

The speed limit there is of course 20 mph - never observed.
