I was involved in an accident last Wednesday where a driver overtook at the pedestrian crossing by Machine Mart on Portobello Rd. and had no space to do so. Bounced the bike a few times off the side of his vehicle and finally wiped me out as he caught my steering as the back end of his car swung out. All the while he was winding down his passenger window to shout at me. Ended up spending 6 hours in hospital with concussion and suffering from lots of bruising, soft tissue / muscle damage and whiplash. I think the bike and the helmet took the worst of it and I amazingly didn't break any bones even though I was doing about 28mph at the time. Luckily the driver did stop and whilst I don't want to say more on a public forum as a prosecution looks likely the police have been very helpful. I had the whole incident and aftermath on video and now have the insurance details of the driver so should be able to get back on the road once the injuries heal.

The bike is currently out for a repair quote but seems to be a complete write off. I very much liked the Boardman Hybrid Pro for commuting but the new model loses the SRAM rival with the fantastic double tap for 105. Does anyone have any other suggestions for when I'm recovered enough to go bike shopping? Keen for a road type geometry, 28c tyres and flat bars around the £1000 mark

@tk I'm sorry to hear that - I hope you will recover ok. Sounds like you've been having a run of really bad luck recently.

For when you recover here are my (possibly identical except for the brakes) suggestions - both available to try at the Edinburgh shop I believe....

which may be roughly the same as
