    I enjoyed the Southern Uplands much more than The Auld Alliance. Didn't take well to the night start, especially after staying up for the election results the night before.

    My knees are becoming an issue though. Going for a posh bike fitting this week in hope of improving things.

    The wind was a female dog on the way out, on our faces all the way to Newton Stewart. We were sheltered from it to Maybole but the p**cture fairy visited me on the way to Maybole. But then from Maybole the wind aided us in spades!! Indeed next year I plan to take a large pole and a spinnaker with me! :O)

    Hope the fitting works out well DrAfternoon

    Just booked on A Fyne Cowal (13 June). Looks like a good route.

    @amir, see you there!

    I have ridden it before two years ago. I hope for less rain this time around - got a good soaking last time...

    Just been reviewing the Mull of Kintyre 600km for 2 weekends time. Finally feeling on top of things and looking forward to it! Anyone else heading along?

    @ARobComp

    I'm going, assuming I finally shake off this lurgy that's curtailed my riding the last couple of weeks. Three of us from Dalgety Bay heading up there to ride, plus DaveC who's going as a helper I believe.

    Good on you Panyagua. I caught a lurgy just before the Merse and Moors, missed that, missed the good weather over Easter and then thought better of trying to get round the Southern Upland 400 in post-viral mode. It's meant to be fun. I've signed up for A Fyne Cowal. Success to failure rate for Audax this year so far: 1:4.

    Bad luck @cyclingmollie. I got the lurgy just before the Southern Uplands, so that's my SR series unlikely for this year unless I find the time and motivation for a DIY 400. However I'll worry about that if I manage to complete the 600!

    Good luck to the Mull of Kintyre combatants. Hope the weather is good.

    I've still got a 400 lined up (the National) but I'm still nervous about attempting a 600. I agree with cyclingmollie - the main motivation is to have fun.

    WEirdly I'm looking forward to Mull of Kintyre more than I was the southern Uplands/merse and moore. I think that the fact that it's a full weekend thing rather than just a one off day thing makes it more attractive somehow. Plus all new cycling terrain which makes it easier!

    Just need to sort out some lights - unless anyone has any I can borrow/buy?

    of course I should point out I mechanicalled out the Merse and Moores and chickened out of the SU because of illness and work related lethargy.

    MOK this weekend. Weather looks a tad rainy but I've got my new wildcat gear to keep my change of clothes and plenty of layers dry! Off out practicing riding with it in the wind this evening!

    Have switched back to 25mm tyres, and have some new cycling shoes after my crash last week tore off half the side of my old ones! Fingers crossed for incredible results.

    Have a good ride ArobComp - and don't forget the cake

    From what DaveC was saying having an ample supply of cake to hand will be necessary!

    Its one tough ride, but of course we were riding an X rated event. You'll be cossetted in luxury*!

    The ride Should be a good one. Don't rush into finishing early, just take your time, and concentrate on getting up those 6 climbs on the east side of the Mull of Kintyre and finishing.

    * at the staffed controls - elsewhere is an entirely other thing! ;O)

    Good luck ARobComp - looks a tough'un.

    I spent Sunday doing the 3 Pistes from Pitlochry to Cairngorm via Glenshee & the Lecht.

    A decent event with a challenging course - the 3 obvious climbs are bad enough but some of the smaller ones seem to go on and on - Bridge of Brown anyone?

    Weather forecast was for -3 and snow at the tops but with a tailwind. What we got was a bit drizzly to start with and not too cold (maybe the exertion was heating me up and I'd not noticed it...) and then a horrid headwind up the Lecht and for the last 40 miles. (I'm going to have nightmares about the wall at the bottom of the Lecht again)

    I was 15 mins slower than last year but significantly improved my placings so well happy with that.

    Oh and check out my spotted. Some people are mad.

    Mull of Kintyre has been cancelled due to severe weather warnings. I really don't fancy the "pair of Kirtons" as I've ridden a lot of that area before and find moors a bit desolate...

    Thinking of doing a long one on Saturday anyway. Need some ideas of routes. Anyone fancy it?

    Thanks for the offer ARob Comp but I will be in Fife painting my mum's house. It's been quite the year for windy events. Windier than usual?

    I'd have said it's been far windier thn last year. Strava says I was out riding all the time but this year ride have been much shorter because of cold and wind.

    Current thinking is ride somewhere south tomorrow evening and bivvy and then ride home sat morning.

    Not long enough for you, but how about the Bethany Sportive? Start early, do 50K, join the Bethany run, do the 102 miles, and add 100K afterwards...

    As DaveC is saying, the weather may be better than the current forecast so ...

    ARobComp - you may want to check out the weather forecast. Not so bad tomorrow - but wind moderate and against. Very windy on Saturday.
