    A brand new, never-used, unbranded, custom-spec carbon road bike end up on Gumtree, and at a higher price than you can buy a better-specified bike kosher off of Wiggle;

    gumtree posting

    The fork looks like a Pinarello but it's an odd selection of components that look like they've been custom assembled as someone's dream machine.

    "bike end up on Gumtree, and at a higher price"

    Perhaps someone thinks that if the price is too low people assume it's stolen...

    cynical moi?

    Sudden illness (or worse)?

    Indignant spouse orders sale?

    Assembled bike and then lost job, hence need to recoup outlay?

    Yes I probably am just cynical and if it had been offered for sale in less salubrious environs than Inverleith and if the poster didn't at least seem to know the correct terminology for all the parts then I might have been doubly justified in my suspicions...

    Just to be clear -

    I was not in any way suggesting that this particular bike wasn't legitimately owned by the seller.

    SRD has a few sound options. The actual price may well be less than owner's cost(s) - especially if they bought items separately.

    I saw an amazing drama in Halfords the other day when Mr and Mrs Methadone decided to dress up in their estimate of cycling types [but forgetting that we don't normally shout at bike mechanics when they are serving other people - of course it is a free country] and get a cannondale with orange flame type frame fixed - chain and rear mech very rusted. It was their uncles. Dudes in Halfords fairly relaxed, perhaps they encounter these dramas regularly as part of the festival?.

    Like most Halfords customers, they probably had to drive there and were therefore stressed and angry as a result :)

    because it's so hideously ugly the seller is too embarrassed to ride it?
