I've managed to get some budget from my work to buy a track pump to keep near the bike racks for people to use.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how best this could be secured? Are there any pumps that a cable lock could be attached to? There are plenty of places it can be secured to, but the pump itself is the problem....

The one in my office is drilled to the floor by the foot plate. In a previous life it was stored in the drying room based on the honour system to be returned there was another one in the (shared) basement car park that belonged to someone at a different company but it was always left out, I used it a couple of times I suspect it wouldn't have been a problem were I caught.

If you drill it down make sure its easy to get both wheels to it, the one in my current office is right pain.

I'm sure the one we always used to keep in the car had a double foot plate, with holes for bolts in the bottom layer, and then a flat platform for putting feet on, on top. can't seem to find any like that now.

Our Revolution trackpump is cable-locked with an extremely thin cable (which just squeezes between a bit of the pipe and the cylinder) to one of the more accessible Sheffield stands, though it's not ideal as it constantly falls over and can be tricky to reach if two exuberant bicycles are chained to either side of the stand.

Well the one here used to be cable-locked to a Sheffield stand, but the key got lost and when the pump needed refurbished, the cable was cut. Now it just wanders around the bike area on its own, stop motion style.

Just keep it in the office. It'll be indide out of the elements and vandals/thieves. If anyone needs to use it its not far away.

This might work but is probably horrendously expensive Public Bike Pump

Thanks for the advice. I don't think our Property department will be willing to drill bolts into the ground, so I'll try to bodge something with a thin cable lock.

The bike park is underground, accessed via security and has CCTV so a lock would only be to deter other workers who may absent mindedly *borrow* it.

  10. Ours is kept in the loading bay, which is open 24hrs a day, so you just pop round and ask the guys working there to borrow it.

If you have security manning the entrance to your work, they could keep it and hand it out when required.

At work We now have a big orange stand you can hang your bike on. The stand has tools attached and a pump.

Got budget for this approved at last so went out and bought a pump at lunchtime, along with a couple of cable locks. I've managed to fasten the pump onto a stand although a determined thief with a pair of scissors would be able to break the locks.

Tiny step by tiny step our work cycle facilities are improving :-)
