After sending back a really rubbish wee Veho MUVI which had a wee button which rattled all the time, I bought a Contour ROAM in about 2012ish. I upgraded to a Garmin VIRB in possibly 2015ish, but the VIRB has stopped working properly and the ROAM sort of works but frequently needs a hard reset and only records in the one format, no longer taking instruction from the text file in the root directory of the memory card. I've been looking at various cameras since last summer, when cars started creeping back onto the roads, but have only just got round to getting one (after sending back a Drift which did not record footage on which number plates could be discerned). I now have an AKASO Brave 7, which is far from perfect but which at least speaks to other things wirelessly and is a bit sharper. It only has electronic stabilisation and doesn't cope at all well with rattly road surfaces but is visibly clearer than the ROAM (albeit with the advantage of four times the pixels), so I might keep it for now...

Aldi are doing a 4K-capable wifi GoPro-alike for £49.99 - or will be when they actually get supplies through: https://www.aldi.co.uk/balco-action-camera/p/715981509338800 The GoPro-style waterproof protective case seems to be a pretty well proven way to keep electronic stuff safe outdoors, and it's sufficiently generic that if it gets trashed it's easy to source an economic replacement.

I'm not a fan of expensive branded action cameras aimed specifically for bikes - and as I mentioned on the other thread - I'm specifically not a fan of handlebar mounted cameras. I prefer to have something that I can use for all my outdoor activities. (That said, I do have an aging Cycliq Fly6, but that's more of an evidence-gathering camera - and a pretty effective flashing rear light - that I can just slap on to the seatpost of whatever I'm riding using its handy velcro moutning strap. And the footage is much more stable than a handlebar mount.)
