Was he ever on the fence?
Scary article though. I hope they are not allowed to get away with it. Good on him for highlighting this.
Makes me wonder what is really going on behind the scenes here. Or at least it makes me wonder even more.

We need more Chris Boardmans! (Boardmen?) That is, articulate cycle campaigners with real credibility and a (literal) track record of success. I'm even prepared to forgive him for only selling his (excellent) bikes through Half*rds.

No, it's Danny MacAskill that does fences. Boardman stays on wider surfaces.
This article was strong. I hope it helps shine light in a few dark corners.

Google TTIP (you may already know) if you want to see the real power of The Corporations.
Scary stuff - we really are all pawns (and I include governments in that) enslaved by big business.

Yes, it really is scary and I do agree about governments. They don't rule the country. I do sort of know this but I would be interested to find out exactly who or which companies! (I will google when I get home tonight)

If you haven't read it I want to back others up in saying that this is worth a read and worth sharing.

A YouGov poll found 64 per cent support for the Mayor’s 14-mile “Crossrail for bikes” £48 million project that will take up one of four lanes on the Victoria Embankment, with 24 per cent opposed and the remainder undecided. There was two-to-one backing for segregated cycle routes even if they resulted in longer journey times for motorists, with 51 per cent in favour and 26 per cent against.
The findings came as more than 100 major employers gave their public backing to the proposals. Land Securities - the UK’s largest commercial property company - and the Royal Opera House joined supporters including RBS, the Crown Estate and Barts Health NHS trust.

The London Cycling Campaign is asking for a Tfl board member to step aside from cycle superhighway discussions due to conflict of interest.Peter Anderson, Chair of Tfl’s Finance and Policy committee, has become the focus of an attack by LCC.
The campaigners are claiming that the future of the cycle superhighway, which is to be decided in November, is “at risk” due to “one extremely powerful individual who sits on the Tfl board”.
Their claims are based on the fact that Anderson is also the managing director of finance at Canary Wharf Group, the company behind “a detrimental briefing against the superhighway proposals”.

Right now in England, around £5 per head is spent on cycling and walking. Ministers want to double that to £10, but it's not clear how.

Boardman was in the film Bicycle playing at the Cameo today, saying he'd swap his gold medal for proper cycling provision. What a star.

Chris Boardman says he doesn’t believe any of the three main political parties is providing the kind of top-down leadership on cycling that would transform it into an everyday activity carried out by “normal people in normal clothes.”

The Western Morning News has the same style of writing as the EEN ( and presumably local rags everywhere).
"... storm of controversy ... stupid and irresponsible ... furious opposition ... furious roadside rows "
I'm looking forward to the film; hopefully it will be shared widely and maybe even some brave TV channel will show it in full.

I think I saw it last year, the day I didn't see Bad Manners because they broke down on the M6.

My favourite article from the double page spread Chdot linked to above was the one about the tortoise who had a lucky escape from the bin lorry. Exactly the kind of thing I buy local papers for.

SPACE with Chris Boardman
Posted by Carlton Reid
I was in Exeter last week to film a video with Chris Boardman. I was also researching stuff for Bike Boom (I multi-task).
Anyway, here's the video. It's all about how to overtake cyclists in the way illustrated in the Highway Code. Chris, as you'd expect, was bloody brilliant!
.
Thanks.

I seem to recall one of the poor overtaking examples being of this parish...
Looking forward to the companion "side by side" video!

Only just noticed this (the giving up TdF bit) -

For a number of years, Chris Boardman has spent every July away from the UK commentating on ITV's coverage of the Tour de France. However, he has now given up this prominent punditry role to concentrate on the creation of a network of walking and cycling routes in Greater Manchester.

Chris Boardman, Greater Manchester’s walking and cycling commissioner and a British Cycling policy advisor, said it was “shameful” things had not improved, and put the boot in to repeated, fruitless calls for protective cycling equipment and absent investment in a safe cycle network.

But £1bn is still not enough to even build Greater Manchester’s 1,800-mile Bee Network of safe paths, according to its architect, Chris Boardman, a former Olympic cycling champion who is the region’s walking and cycling commissioner. He has asked Johnson for £1.2bn and says he will continue to do so
