I know the precise answer will be dependent on this-and-that, but does anyone know roughly how much torque should be applied when screwing in a replacement bb into an aluminium frame (my MTB for info..). I'm taking things carefully...the whole deal feels like open heart surgery to me, and I'm definitely no surgeon...and the main body of the bb went in OK but the opposing cup (shimano bbn 55 iirc) seems much stiffer. Threads not crossed and yes, I'm turning it the right way, so maybe I'm just being cautious, but a torque figure would help me...

Shimano recommend 50-70 Nm depending on which model. If the threads on the BB shell are gunked up it can take a fair bit of effort to screw the new BB in.

Many thanks for that. Not close to that figure yet so hopefully all good. Shell wasn't too gunky but I gave it a good clean anyway before putting in the new bb.

Another option is to back out the drive side now you've got it on - then you're only trying to do one thing at a time (get the NDS cup to screw in) and you can have a bit more confidence finishing up with the DS again, having already proven to yourself that it does go.
