It's been bugging me for a while but can anyone explain to me how you are supposed to use the toucan crossing when going from East Crosscauseway to West Crosscauseway?

Are you supposed to stay between the metal studs of the crossing, mount the pavement, then dodge the bins and re-enter the road on West Crosscauseway somehow. Or should you cut the corner and use the road?

I normally use the road as it's the most sensible option, but it creates conflict with traffic turning right from the A7 into West Crosscauseway. Who has priority - the turning cars or the crossing bikes?

It's not a big problem, but it bugs me a lot because its just not quite right.

When I lived on the Pleasance I always exited the toucan-channel and went into West Crosscauseway on the road rather than do anything with the footway. As cars usually only decide to turn right into West Crosscauseway from Nicolson Street when they see that the lights are red they ought to give way to anything already using West Crosscauseway, but obviously they don't, so I always kept out of their way, until we moved and I didn't have to use it any more.

Your next challange is to find someone who knows how you're supposed to use the new(ish) shared-use pavements and toucan to get from Bowmont Place to East Crosscauseway and vice versa.

I didn't even know there was a shared-use pavement at Bowmont Place!

    You are not alone!

I know it's there, but can't imagine anyone using it.

Bit like the 'facility' at Cameron Toll.

I think I've used it twice - to remind me how pointless it is.

They add extra mm to CEC's list of 'dedicated cycle mileage'.
