Public health england does some interesting work.
I am inconvenienced with the changes to NHS England. The miss alignment of incentives between GPs and the patient where GPs will be able to refer to companies they have a finical interest in.
Even in Scotland GPs are private a business that awards themselves NHS employment contracts. Private business, with public sector pensions GPs are often unisoned business owners often the public being the ones that loser out.
The gatekeeper of the NHS, being a GP, to get to use the state services hospitals you have to go through the private NHS GP system.
I remember when complained to my MSP when I was unemployed for a period 10 years ago. I could not get a NHS dentist my msp correctly informed me that NHS dentists are a private business. So in effect the state provides not dentistry as a mandatory service irrespective of income other than the non private NHS pain relief service.
Even in Edinburgh NHS Gp are given discretion as to who they see and can choose for different forms of ID or hurdles because they are a private business. Yet when it comes to getting paid they quality for a state subsided public sector pension, they have an option on future tax payers money below the bond rate.
I think ministers are quite mis leading in respect to the NHS, as to get to use the state service it comes down to the whims of private businesses.
Dentists and GPs are free to refuse to see people.
If the bin man does not pick up the bin you can complain, to the council and they could get sacked.
If the bin man refuses to pick up your bin and then says he will do it if you pay him then he could get sacked.
This is the NHS , even targets for being seem by a GP are some what false as this is only if a GP agrees to see you if not target does not apply.
You have to pay tax for these private business gate keepers. To access NHS hospitals you it’s the whims of a private businesses.
Mps all on sides are a bit mis leading as unlike say bin collection there is no mandatory entitlement for dentistry irrespective of income and GP service seems largely their for the benefit of GPs. The Bevan report and filling the doctor’s mouths with gold tend to think in England at least this attitude has continued.
Patients should be at the heart of the NHS not GPs as the English model seems to make. A mis alignment of incentives the plan is meant to mock private doctors you choose yet in effect the doctor chooses the patient.
When it comes to being seem by a so called NHS doctor or a dentists they are a private business, like a cafe etc, yet when it comes to paying for the services they are like the council.
It is a legal requirement to pay tax for NHS doctors and GPs yet they have no legal requirement to see you. Apart from emergency services the NHS offers a lot less than is suggested as a right irrespective of income.
