The man in charge of Edinburgh Trams – who pockets a £270,000 salary – has been blamed for a major rift at the heart of the Capital’s public transport firm.
"
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!

One insider said that given the huge pay packets awarded to the directors they should be able to “sort out their differences and get back to doing their jobs”. Another source said: “This is playground behaviour when they should be focusing on running the transport service.”

I find it hard to imagine anyone ever doing more than £200,000 worth of work in a year of a salaried position. I'd love to know what's so special about this dude.
But if you are salaried then you're entitled to protection from harassment at work like everyone else.
I wonder exactly what it is that requires someone to be paid ~£1,300 a day to run oversee the men on ~£900 a day directly underneath him to run a provincial bus company that has a track record of being more than capable of running itself.
The man who will run the new Scotrail Sleeper franchise as (I think) Chief Exec is late of TIE and the WCML franchise debacle. It would appear that there comes a point when you reach a certain, high rung of the corporate ladder when it no longer matters how much you mess up (even if it's guilt by association), you just move on, keep your head down and the next opening on the state-subsidised gravy train is yours.
THREE top executives at Lothian Buses are on “bomb-proof” contracts which guarantee them a pay-off of twice their annual salary in severance cash if they quit.
That's surely not right? For voluntarily leaving your job? You could just leave your job and collect 2 years pay packet in return, rather than work for 2 years!
"That's surely not right?"
Welcome to the world of people who think they are worth more than everybody else.
(And then some.)
a senior council executive will join the management team in a bid to get the publicly-owned firm back on track
Because senior council executives have a strong track record of not messing things up...
Track record, careful now, trams are great though their tracks are slippy
only when wet.
condor2378 - I think the blogger might be wrong on this one. Any Scottish councillor can be an unpaid non-executive director of a council owned public transport company, as long as they do not take part in any council discussions or votes directly related to that company. See Section 74(3) of the Transport Act 1985.
This would certainly make the job of being convenor of the Transport and Environment Committee a bit tricky, but probably not impossible.
Failure to comply with this requirement is an offence, punishable by a fine.
Scottish Ministers can issue a letter of dispensation, excepting individuals and groups from this requirement. I have no idea if this has happened for the individuals in question or the Council as a whole.
Excellent. I love the smell of nepotism in the morning.
@Morningsider, agreed, though I think that the Directors of Stagecoach and First may take exception of having the Convenor of Edinburgh's Transport, Infrastructure and Environment Committee on the Board of the main Edinburgh Bus Company.
She shouldn't even being getting involved IMO. Interesting times ahead, I think.

Workers at Lothian Buses have threatened to withdraw their support from Councillor Lesley Hinds’ Scottish Parliament election bid over her handling of a boardroom row at the firm.
"
Owen Boyle, an employee director who represents staff in high-level meetings, tendered his resignation yesterday in protest at the number of boardroom leaks appearing in the pages of the Evening News.
...
In a resignation letter seen by the Evening News, Mr Boyle said: “From the comments made in the paper, it is obvious that someone with knowledge is making comments to the News and hiding behind a nom de plume. I do not want to be associated with such cowardly behaviour and it is with regret that I have to resign my position on the board."
Someone's having a laugh, aren't they?
