"As part of the Barratt Development, north of Newcraighall Road the disused railway bridge that crosses the A6095 is to be demolished. To accomplish these works Newcraighall Road (A6905) will be closed for 7 days.

This closure will start on Monday 17th November and run until Sunday 23rd November 2014. This closure will cause inconvenience and disruption to the travelling public. To help reduce disruption, a pedestrian footway has been construction within the Barratt development site, this footway will be tarred, fenced and lit. This will provide 24 hour, 7 days a week access for pedestrian and cycle traffic. All vehicular traffic, including public transport, will be diverted via the A1. Public Transport will divert through Queen Margaret University and pick up the route at the roundabout at Whitehill Farm Road. There will be a free shuttle bus running between this point and Newcraighall East. (times to be confirmed)

    Further details attached."

So all you gotta do to get a traffic-free, streetlit, tarmacced cycle path built in a few weeks is knock a bridge down?

That'll be the perfectly good bridge that could have been used to create a grade-separated crossing of the A6095 for the continuation & straightening of NCN 1 and NCN 76.

    DOH!

The bridge and continuing route to QMC would also avoid the nasty dogleg through the narrow & fast Whitehill St/Newhailes Rd and housing estate.

Completely despicable that they are destroying this bridge, just so that cars can avoid a chicane in the road and speed through as fast as they like.
