When Stewart Stevenson says in the foreword to the Cycling Action Plan for Scotland "That is why we would like to see, by 2020, 10% of all journeys in Scotland made by bike" and when they write in the document itself "Currently 1% of all journeys by Scottish residents are made by bicycle (Scottish Household Survey Travel Diary, 2008), and we would like to see this increased tenfold to 10% by 2020" then I think we can stop worrying too much about whether it's a vision or a target or whether there's even any useful distinction to be made between a vision and a target. They set themselves something that they said they wanted to achieve but they haven't put the effort or resources into and they are going to fail.

If this "vision" comes to pass, we will finally be able to enjoy cycling on segregated bike paths during our twilight years. I'm looking forward to a great cycling retirement!

That is, for about a decade or so until armageddon arrives:

Knocked up a thousand words for The Nation loosely based on this thread. If I've not been too ranty and they're short of copy, you never know...

Well, it seems that my MSP (Cara Hilton) or, more likely, her researcher, is more than capable of taking some prepared lines, paraphrasing them and firing them on to the new minister, just as I'd hoped. I await the minister's response.

    I can’t find a thread for this

    CITY PLAN 2030

Preparing the next local development plan for Edinburgh

If there isn’t one, there needs to be.

See my post yesterday, about each of us adopting a stretch of bollarded path to keep clean.

Candidates must be robust enough to turn up one morning to find their beloved bollards ripped up and several Audi motor cars parked in the spot they have been licking clean.
