Nice interaction with a truck driver this morning.
Top of Leith Walk was a mess, but obviously on the bike there’s space to go round the static traffic on the roundabout outside the Omni to get onto Queen Street. Nowt moving at all, nothing getting on, nothing getting off. But as I go round I see that a light ahead has turned green. I now have a choice of passing behind one truck, in front of another, with a driver who might not expect a bike to be nipping into the space just as he’s inching forward having notice the light as well; or being marooned on the roundabout.
So I wave to get the driver’s attention, to point to the space and get his okay to nip through. Then notice his window is open. “Can I just…?” I start, and he waves me through with a short, “Aye”. “Cheers mate” I offer in return. He then follows me down part of Queen Street before turning off left, not overtaking, holding back. It should be the norm, that lack of aggro and people happy to help each other out, but while it’s not I’ll still be happy for those little moments.

I've had a few good folk like that. Was riding up Inverkeithing High St last night and a driver didn't rush to overtake me like many others would (for those who don't know it has a lot of parked cars and traffic islands). Waited until there was plenty of room and gave me 2m clearance.
I raised my hand to thank him as he was coming past and the Cyclist going downhill thought I was greeting him and shouted a cheery hello...
Nice little moment...

Always cheers me up, these little positive interactions. Balances out the rubbish ones and reminds me most people are pretty considerate.
