More of this on Road.cc with Yessers whinging that the cities listed - don't include any Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish. If Scotland chose to spend a proportion of the Barnet formula, its money, on cycling in Scottish cities what would you say if English spectators questioned why non of it was being spent in England. Who says its extra money? I'd guess its not new money, but a reallocation.

The SNP choose not to support cycling, they're all about the big bang vanity projects and dualling the Highlands. There's plenty of money there already (A9 project would pay for the cycling budget for two or three hundred years IIRC)

One of the main reasons I can't bring myself to support them.

The two Daves, I have to say I agree with both of you on this.

(Though please don't assume all Yessers support the SNP. Many do not.

All Yes voters back the SNP unquestioningly. Are you entirely certain which box you put the cross in?

As far as I can tell, this is UK Department for Transport cash. The UK DfT is only responsible for active travel in England.

Of course, as with all cycling announcements the headlines and reality bear little relation. £114m is to fund an already announced "Cycling Ambition Cities" programme over the next three financial years.

A further £100m is to fund unspecified active travel improvements next to the English trunk road network over an unspecified period of time.

The spending is all in the next Parliament and (ahem) the announcement was made by Nick Clegg.
