CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

The link doesn't work, you can find the survey here:

I think its great that Midlothian Council lets primary school kids design these surveys.
What? Oh...
A reminder. I was speaking to a Midlothian councilor on Saturday who was happy to boast of the cycling improvements they have made.
Are you one of the 287 people who have filled in our cycling survey? If not, there's still time. They survey closes on Friday 19 December.
Midlothian Council launched the survey in early November to find out local people’s experiences of getting on their bikes in the county.
The council wants to know if there are plenty of good cycle routes. Do cyclists feel safe on their bike when cycling locally? What more could we be doing to encourage people to ditch the car in favour of cycling?
Councillor Derek Rosie, cabinet member with responsibility for transport, said: “We're absolutely delighted so many people have taken the time to tell us what they think so far.
“We want even more people to fill it in as the views of cyclists will help shape Midlothian’s first ever Cycling Strategy for 2015-2020."
You can fill in the survey from Monday 10 November at http://www.midlothian.gov.uk/cycling-survey
Alternatively, you can call Dave Kenny on 0131 271 3398 or email Dave at dave.kenny@midlothian.gov.uk
I decided to fill this in just now as we chose not to live in Midlothian due to the poor cycling provision (otherwise I found virtually our dream house - the large detached garage even had an inspection pit!)
Not sure this will really fill their criteria but I thought it might be a relevant observation...
Like me, you do have a Midlothian postcode, (not in council tax sense but in Walter Scott sense) you don't get an edinburgh one until Juni green.
I filled it in and asked that they spend any budget on infrastructure, segregated lanes etc.
Filled it in a few weeks ago. I live in deepest Midlothian and have to cycle through most of the thin bit of it to get to the city. I tried to highlight that the money they are spending on segregated infrastructure is being wasted on poor ineffective design. Main problem is shared paths in the new estates which have chicanes and give way to every side street.
"Not sure this will really fill their criteria but I thought it might be a relevant observation..."
In some ways they need such details more than they need 'good ideas from people who already cycle'.
I wonder if MidL is getting many 'I would cycle, but' submissions.
There are 128 mentions of cycling here -

Cycled from South Edinburgh to Pencaitland yesterday to deliver Christmas puddings. I enjoyed it as an easy trail ride. As a practical cycle route it's a waste of time.
* Signage was such that the OS map I was carrying was not a luxury
* I had to cross downtown Dalkeith on the roads
* The Ormiston path was ankle deep in water
* Chicanes!
* Three-on-a-bike teenage motorcycle thieves
* No lighting
All of the above mean that most people would regard the trip as too adventurous. Vulnerable people might have felt threatened. (Although the motorcycle thieves gave me a polite and friendly wave just before I called them in to the police.) In short, we'll not be seeing mass cycle commuting from Pancake Land into Mbra any time soon.
On the way back I tried the new ERI cycle facility I'd spotted recently. It is a true work of art and I commend it to the forum - an absurd route between two places that no cyclist is liable to find themselves in, which I believe is part of the official guidelines for such things.

Is that the one to the south of the site where there is no obvious way to leave it or even to reach it in the first place?
@Min
An excellent description.
It's a cracker right enough.
@Min In someone's book "not connected to anything" means it's 'safely segregated from motor traffic, like cyclists are always asking for'.
Current works -
Work is underway removing traffic islands at Milton Bridge to put in wider more continuous cycle lanes on road and wider shared path from Glencorse to Gowkley Moss.
In Dalkeith, foot way widened along Dalhousie Rd, replacing path which is now back as rail track.
On Monday a quite big new 20mph limit starts in Lasswade main A768 road and a couple of side roads. signs and lines only no extra traffic calming.

It is hoped the City of Edinburgh will extend the route to Shawfair as this will provide an excellent commuter and leisure route that could provide the opportunity for a circular (mostly off road ) cycling route to/from Edinburgh
