carltonreid: RT @cyclegaz: I think that is first case of a prosecution in the UK from evidence of a helmet camera.

"the driver was cautioned for assault and charged with driving without due consideration: he received five points on his licence and had to pay a fine. Ride with a camera to record similar transgressions!"

    That made me indescribably angry.

Then I realised that he had a helmet cam and then I read the rest of your post and I went "woo!".

I've been on the receiving end of some rotten driving, but never with such blatant malice as this example. I need to keep my mobile handy for such purposes, rather than safely in the waterproof confines of my bag.

If the camera hadn't been rolling I'd have let my language get a little bit more floral than in that clip

There have been a few of these now - I know of a couple of drivers who have accepted cautions for assault (so technically they have an assault conviction on their record, although it didn't go to court) as well as another couple of pending prosecutions.

Personally I think if you use your vehicle as a weapon to try and strike someone you should get a life ban, but yeah, a great result considering that there are no shortage of cases where a driver has mown someone down and come away with a few points (if at all).

" I think if you use your vehicle as a weapon to try and strike someone you should get a life ban" I had two lads in a car almost crush me at the corner of toll cross while going down the one way system from broughm street.

    Here

I think they were trying to scare me with a swerve to the left but underestimated how quickly I'd accelerate across toll cross.

I had to unclip and boot the side of the car to stop getting crushed, then chased them all the way around the one way as they accelerated away clearly terrified.

It quite easily could have been a fatal accident and they just thought they were having a laugh. I wish I'd have had a cam on for that because it was such a blatant disregard for safety. Idiots like that should have to sit their test again.

How terrible. ARobComp, I disagree re: resitting their exam - even if they can drive correctly while monitored, they've disqualified themselves from the privilege that it is to take control of a car.

I haven't ridden much since I left the Netherlands, and have had no problems during that time, but perhaps I will investigate the possibility of a mounted camera to ensure a semblance of justice for those using the roads incorrectly.
