REMINDER: Edinburgh is pretty fantastic really

Such list are obviously subjective -
24. Because it’s compact, clean, and safe.
You can cycle across the whole city in about an hour, and no one will steal your bike.
"
But the reminders are useful.
I've lived in 5 UK cities (and visited most of the rest). Lived here the longest. London has its attractions but you can't really get the same 'quality of life' unless you have a lot of money.

Nice pictures. I do not think the one of Ian Rankin is in the Oxford Bar, looks a bit like it but the tables are in the other room? Has bendy lens perspective but not that bendy. Loving the guy next to him winning staring competition. Bristol was good, also enjoyed living in Glasgow and Manchester but Edinburgh is the best. AS CHDot says London fine if you are loaded. The comments underneath the pictures get a bit heated darling from a demographic I thought had more in common with each other than some of them realised.

"from a demographic I thought had more in common with each other than some of them realised"
Sounds like 'here'...

I thought about that but wasn't sure. Some topics more divisive than others?

and the first picture is one of mine (Field of Light)!
I think the Ian Rankin one is in Diggers, rather than the Oxford Bar.
On the stealing of bikes, I did leave mine parked on the Mound for a good 12 hours a couple of Fridays ago, only on my return did I discover that I had managed to completely fail to put my lock through the railings!

Comments on most subjective lists seem to attract trolls, hey ho.
Reason 54 - Although we know how good it is here, we also know its not perfect - just feels as close as you can get.

Loved the town the first time I set eyes on her. She's been playing hard to get for a few decades, but I'm still hopeful.

Whilst there might be the odd oaf or ned on some of the bike paths, at least there are none of these:

That survey will generate a lot of text to analyse

Sometimes better to do a cheeky wee focus group first to inform questionnaire design

Won't make much difference, 'forcing' the developeers.
Interesting article.
There was the case on Calton Road I think, where planning permission for residential flats was only granted on the basis that the developers included noise insulation because there was a nightclub nearby. Only once multiple residents complained was it found that the developers had pulled a fast one and included not one ounce of insulation in the building, and then fought tooth and nail to avoid having to do so. I think due to the existing laws, the nearby nightclub in question was then ordered to fit additional noise insulation which nearly bankrupted them.Posted 10 years ago # -
"Sometimes better to do a cheeky wee focus group first to inform questionnaire design"
I'm going to start writing that into proposals.

@insto - hope it brings successful results.
I have some tales I could relate regards the Institute for Social research, perhaps now defunct. They were based across from the 1904 Olympic pool which I swam in each day before their qualitative research methods course in 1994.
Possibly only your good self would be interested?
Turns out 1908 in London and still working on correct name of the institute - maybe centre for social research and policy
Social Policy Research Centre now based at uni of Middlesex. Think they were ULU back then. Interesting hegemony of Middle age Middle class women that they didn't quite grasp
