I'm dredging this thread back up to the top, and also adding a survey on when you first took your little darlings out en velo.

    No reason...

I'm aware that most people probably decided based on development of child rather than age. Sitting up unsupported, etc.

Assumption 1: you planned on cycling with your spawn ASAP. If you fall into the >15m box because you only started cycling yourself when they were older, could you refrain from voting?

Assumption 2: unless you have a miracle child, this is with you providing the forward power. Bike seat, trailer, sling, whatever.

Although able to sit up unsupported, the 2013 piglet wasn't able to shuffle himself back into position after settling a little in transit over cobbles on his first couple of outings, though that could be prevented with a cushion behind him seeing as the CoPilot Taxi only has one middle-strap anchor-point.

Noted; thanks. No cobbles in my bit of Glasgow (although you could argue our road surface simulates the effect well enough).

number 2 (aka microsrd) had hist first ride at about 6 weeks in a sling. this was new years day, so quiet roads etc. but didn't try it again until he was 4 months, in a top tube mounted seat. he loved it.

(i thought it was earlier than that, but just checked date on pictures)

Was that a cunning edit from mini to micro?

Top-tube mounted looks the favoured choice at the moment. I'm just pondering whether I have an appropriate top-tube...

    "cunning edit"

indeed minisrd as you lot call her had to wait until we got bikes and a seat when she was 18m.

I should have said that between 6 weeks and 6 months, he did get occasional trips in the trailer as well.

Ours both went out for the first time on very short rides before 12 months and then regularly on the nursery run from 12 months.

Main concern for us was holding head up and also keeping it upright as on anything longer than 10-15 mins our eldest seemed to nod off...

Both kids loved the seat and it'll be weird when the youngest no longer uses it...

If you count in a trailer then Ewan was out from whenever he was able to fit into a car seat that could be strapped into the trailer.

My favourite was the dodgy seat from eBay that clamped to (and ruined) the top tube of my mountain bike and had both of them (separately) sitting inside my arms with their feet resting on the top of the suspension. Happy days barrelling down hills.

For us it was about a year. Partly because that was when the weather was nice enough to go out for family rides and partly because of when we were organised enough to fit the wicker seat to a rack.
