That'll be my new favourite website. Lots of activity to browse through!

But: .dk? Hasn't the Scottish Gov or Cycling Scotland hooked up a public presence for the counters? Or is this site the public presence?

no, there is supposed to be a scottish one - once all the counters have power. this one is - i presume - the firm that put them up?

Nice. I tried entering my email address for a report of last year, but it appears you must be registered though.

So on both Tuesday and Wednesday this week, 50-ish bikes went through at 0300. Really?

I tried exactly the same thing as jdanielp; it would be really interesting to get hold of some of the raw data... Might email them and see if they will give access. If not I might just start scraping the counts.

The daily and monthly .pdf by email service works without registering, but I haven't had a response to the full time period (yet). Some of the other sites in Scotland also have some surprising very high flows around midnight, unfortunately.

Interesting to see that in addition to morning rush hour and evening rush hour there's club-closing-time rush hour. This is excellent.

Counter for the Union Canal says five cyclists today. Surely not right?

@Utrechtcyclist - is that the spike at 0300 each day that I commented on with some scepticism earlier (says a person who has no idea when club-closing rush hour is?)

Interesting there's about 20 fewer bikes on the commute home than in the morning. Are they all going to the clubs instead?

Union canal counter is defective. Issue known and is being dealt with.

Quite possibly there's a more convenient route on the way home that bypasses the counter? I regularly go to work one way and home another, but wouldn't think of doing the same routes in the opposite order. If that makes sense.

    I prefer my hypothesis. :-)

I wonder if people are less keen on fighting traffic when they're still half asleep in the morning.

That's good. Looks like we have more bike counters than some places where cycling is more common.

Wouldn't surprise me if the dead of night cyclists were bar and club staff or shift workers. Their only other non-car options being expensive taxis or hourly night buses.

If you open that site with firebug turned on you can see the AJAX call which it makes to obtain the data

    e.g.

    http://www.bicyclecounter.dk/BicycleCounter/GetCycleInfo?ran=1420720637763&StationId=254&LaneId=0&cmd=timezone

Seems to be some pretty straightforward XML so writing a scraper would be easy.

BC5 GB Edingburgh Union Canal, 6 cylists today, coatbridge only has 5, I wonder if coatbridge counter is also broken.

@david.nutter "straightforward XML" - it might be straightforward for you, but I don't even know what it is :-)

This is obviously used for the feed outside Victoria Quay.

The 3 am cycle rush hour, is drunks playing with the sensor on MMW in my experience ('isn't it funny to make the count go up?')

Yes, should be just west of lift bridge.

Went from 4 to 5 when I went over late yesterday afternoon.

Can't believe that low though 'really'.

Just put a working one in the 'right place' and forget about that one!

Stayed resolutely at 8 when I cycled over it three times on Friday morning. I'd even changed my route home specially to include it.

"Serious training in Inverness! It appears that a peleton of about 100 cyclists has been passing the Millburn Bike Counter shortly after midnight every night"

    kaputnik,

I go past it twice a day but I'm on the A89 and the counter is on the pavement so it never counts me.
