@threefromleith - The words "gift", "horse" and "mouth" spring to mind, but that sounds like a browser issue. There are definitely still comments on the EEN.

That's weird. No comments in either IE, Chrome or Firefox here at work. Has the comment system changed, I wonder. Maybe the new one is blocked by work.
When reading story that has comment numbers on the main page, the comment number box in the story itself shows '0 Comments' Definitely something strange going on, but as you say - it's a bit of a gift as I no longer end up seething after my lunchtime squint at the EEN online!

EEN is now using the Facebook comments system so probably banned in workplaces.
It's fun trying to match the old EEN frothers to their new Faceboak alias. I've definitely id'd one of them...

Ah - yes. Was able to see some comments on my phone browser, and noticed the Facebook 'Like' so realised that's why they no longer show at work (FB is blocked).

It would be good if there was a crackdown on clearly defective vehicles.
I was stopped at traffic lights this morning when I heard another cyclists having a go at a driver. She was complaining at the emissions. I thought nothing of it until a couple of minutes later I was enveloped in a cloud of black smoke. There was no way that that that van was going to pass even an official emissions test. I had to stop to let it going - worried as I'd already had breathing problems that morning and needed a ventolin puff.Posted 7 years ago # -
@amir - A few months ago I heard someone complaining about an excessively fumey bus they'd seen. Someone else told them that the police can deal with this if it's reported. I don't know if that's true, but might be worth investigating if you see similar in the future.

Another reason to have a video I suppose. I was too busy taking evasive action.

@amir, remember that choking diesel car at the turn towards Grantshouse on the A1 last weekend? Idling for ages, pulling across ahead of us onto the cycle lane until we caught up then heading off rolling coal* (as 'mercans would say). Should have reported that one.

MSPs will today visit St John’s Road, Corstorphine, to hear from locals what it’s like to live on one of Scotland’s most polluted streets amid calls for curbs on vehicles in the area.

Air pollution fears after rail fare rises make the cost of commuting cheaper by car
"
Posted 7 years ago # -
From the Herald article:
---
And the most recent transport statistics for Scotland show a steady increase in car traffic over the last five years – while regulated rail fares have increased 12.7 per cent over the same period.
Scottish Government figures show 34.7 million vehicle kilometres were travelled by cars on all of Scotland’s roads in 2015-16, up from 33.6m in 2010-11, an increase of 3.2 per cent.
Official statistics also show 2.9m motor vehicles were licensed in Scotland in 2015, the highest-ever level – 13 per cent higher than in 2005 and up from 0.9 million in 1964.

@TransformScot
Transport is now the largest source of carbon emissions in Scotland -- and still the Budget puts private car use ahead of sustainable transport. Vital that transport spending is rebalanced to tackle climate change.https://twitter.com/TransformScot/status/956095794368733185
@TransformScot
To tackle climate change, the Budget must be re-balanced to prioritise sustainable transport. Our comment on the Environment Committee's Budget report:

You might want to consider signing this petition.

I did try but kept being redirected to a host of other surveys which I would also want to sign if I did not feel surveyed outr.
Apparently I did sign, without realising

@Stickman
Interesting article from the Brotherhood there. The slope of the right hand side of the mortality curve in Figure 2 is brutal. Makes you wonder how anyone's alive at all in Morocco.
Unless of course their curve is shifted to higher temperatures by behaviour or constitution?

AIR QUALITY IN SCOTLAND INQUIRY

Hopefully, they'll publish pollution figures for the last few (and next few) days.
We'll get to see what happens to ail quality when traffic is massively reduced.
