Anyone here going...?
Assuming you can get there.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
Boyfriend is in the solo category (having previously done it in a team of 4 once and as a pair twice).
The weather does seem to be forecast to clear up just in time...
We've hired a camper van (luxury! previous years we've been in a tent) and a friend is coming along with me to join the support crew.
I'm in the female pairs (Hannah, half of team Gearonimo or some such), seeing as I now have pogies I'm hoping for subzero weather to try them out. Chris'll be in the shop as normal if anyone needs anything.
"pogies"?? Spiked tyre of some kind I assume?
Boyfriend is hoping to get some use from his spikes.
I thought they were Watersports gloves? The sort that cocoons both your hand and paddle but I guess could also be used to cocoon a handlebar.
Yeah, in the kayaking world they're a glove that wraps around both your hand and the paddle. Kind of like a neoprene oven mit with holes in each side for the paddle shaft.
Presumable the bike version just has the one hole!
Ah.
I wonder if that was what the link that SRD or someone shared on the Women's Cycle Forum Facebook page was about.
Sounds perfect for Boyfriend Of Fimm, he always gets cold hands (and feet) and has about a gazillion gloves...
Yep, exactly like the kayaking ones. They mean you don't have to wear big bulky gloves when it's really cold. I've yet to use mine properly but I'll let you know how they go. Downside is they definitely look like you're riding a bike wearing oven gloves.
It will be dark much of the time - so oven glove fashion faux pas should not be a problem!
Good luck to Boyfriend Of Fimm and Team Gearonimo - plus any other intrepids on this event.
Course should be nice'n'frosty.
You are of course, quite, quite mad.
Keith Forsyth 1st with 28 laps
Guy Martin 2nd
Gearonimo did 15 laps - which was more than many. Well done to them. Totally OTT.
Boyfriend of Fimm ... report to follow I'm sure!

Boyfriend Of Fimm did 17 laps and was 22nd solo out of 92 starters. He seems happy with that. He was still going at the end, (rather than bailing after 18 - 20 hours or something) which is something he wanted to do.
The support crew survived the experience! We hired a camper this year which made it a lot more pleasant than working out of a tent which we've done in the past (when he did it in a pair). No major mechanicals, and my fellow support crew person did most of the bike cleaning, leaving me to feed B.O.F. which suited me just fine.
Oh yes, well done Hannah and team Gearonimo.
There were several people in pogies which do look highly comical but I'm sure are warm!
@fimm 17 laps is seriously good going, how anyone can do more than 10 I have no idea! Pogies were slightly too warm, but I kept them on to compensate for not being able to feel my feet. Guy Martin was looking very cheerful every time I saw him, not convinced he's human. All over for another year!
Think last year's one might be featured on The Mountain next week. BBC monday 7.30.
Hannah has done this for a third year now (I think). Albeit with different teams. One year on a single speed. Pretty impressive! Not sure how often Guy Martin has done.
Yes, Boyfriend and I have been recording The Mountain and watched this week's episode later on Monday. We started laughing when we saw the Strathpuffer come up. I think there was a team from Cairngorm Mountain this year too, just going on a team name I noticed.
I also think there were more women taking part than I remember noticing in previous years. Certainly one year when it was on The Adventure Show there were only two female solos, this year there were 7.
Boyfriend is saying that he's all Strathpuffered out, but then the man he did it as a pair with is making noises about organising a team of 4 so who knows...
On Adventure Show now - BBC2
Even more mad than ever with all the snow
Balerno ladies did well.
Yes, a decent second, I don't think I know them though.
Is this a safe place to mention that I have always fancy having done the Strathpuffer?
Haven't ridden a mountain bike in 20 years though but you can but dream...

A CCE team attempt on the Puffer would be a thing. I mean. You want to solo it?
Oh. oh.
OH.
(there's like a YEAR to get fit, right?)
I'm 0.959 chains so that MTB isn't going to be comfortable for multiple hours...
My thinking hadn't got far enough to actually consider how I would do it...
A team version would make some sense if we were targeting anytime before my next significant birthday.

I'm liking the way CCE has just spontaneously and collectively given up on conventional measures of time and distance.
