    Some people here don't care much for dogs; perhaps a cat cafe will be of interest?

    I may visit, although my own cats may get a bit jealous!

    They're like buses: http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/cat-cafe-planned-for-the-capital-1-3482965

    This is my preferred option which I funded on IndieGoGo before the Stockbridge one was officially announced. I like the idea that they will be taking and potentially helping to rehome rescue cats, whereas the Stockbridge cafe seems to be based around the idea of exotic breeds, which I am often not a fan of... Moggies for me!

    I've got two moggies (rehomed from Cat Protection and EDCH) but I'm not going to pretend that I don't think Maine Coons and Norwegian Forests are gorgeous!

    Hopefully there's room for both cafés in Edinburgh. A bit different from another Costa/Starbucks/......

    Yeah, the Norwegian Forest cat does sound like it will be worth a visit from its name alone! Like you say, I think that they can both get on since they will be on different sides of town and have different cats. From what I have read the Stockbridge one may not be there for all that long ('pop-up' references) in any case...

    Here on the rough bounds of the south side of town, I take my morning coffee in the company of the King. An orange feral cat quite unfettered by feline precedent he sustained himself through the capture of grey squirrels and wood pigeons for at least a year before making friends with us.

    He is under no compulsion to frequent our house and I am honoured when he does. At times I believe him to be a spirit, drawn as I am to magical thought. I note the tale of Muezza.

    We have two cats over the fence to the right Magnus and Milly both with M on their heads from the prophet. (Tabbies) alas their brother Max was killed by a terrier that came in through the garden at the bottom. Then two Burmese crosses Bob who is black and Maisie who is powder grey. So that is enough cats, our garden has the field mice.

    Yesterday in the front yard next to the main road we had a rabbit. Was like totally all over snapchat as 'rescued' by eldest daughter and her pal. This rescue involved taking the cushions from the sofa and sitting on the outside of the window ledges drinking cups of tea and watching it until the SSPCA came and removed the critter. I fear miximatosis.

    @gembo

    Fear not. Humans are immune to miximatosis.

    We have each other exactly where we want. He is the captain of his soul, I am the captain of mine and the first mate of his.

    I spent a very pleasant hour in Maison de Moggy this afternoon.

    Absolutely beautiful cats, all well socialised and looking very relaxed with the human interaction. The owners have set things up really well: there are lots of raised cat runs, beds and all sorts of toys and scratching posts around the two rooms. The cats can also take themselves off to a quiet room if they want to get away from people, although none did when I was there.

    The staff are really nice but are still finessing their booking system. I'd recommend a visit to any cat lovers.

    Oh, wow. Have to take Boyfriend Of Fimm there, he loves cats (and has been feeling a bit under the weather this week after his efforts of last weekend...)

  11. Tempted to go, though I am a little more keen on seeing the 'other' cat cafe start up, the one that was getting kickstarter style funding last year. They're going to be populated by rescue cats, rather than purebreeds, which are all availabel for rehoming. Something about that is just really attractive - the cats are getting to socialise, and be out of a pen in a homely type atmosphere, and may find a new home.

    That said, some of those pedigree cats are utterly gorgeous.

    @WC: yes, the cats are stunning - extremely photogenic! Some people had their SLRs with them so I'm sure with your skills you could do the cats justice.

    I like the idea of the rescue cat cafe although I'm not sure my own cats could trust me to visit without bringing back a new addition to the family. One of our cats was adopted after we visited EDCH "just for a look"!

    @fimm: check their availability in advance. They said they were pretty much fully booked this weekend. The session we were at this afternoon was full (30 people), but because of the size of the place and the friendliness of be cats it didn't actually seem that busy. Everyone had a smile on their face and were saying "aaaaw" a lot.

  13. We did the 'just for a look' thing at Lothian Cat Rescue a little over three years ago. I should have twigged when my other half also said we should take the cat basket 'just in case' (we'd lasted a week without a cat in the house after our previous old fella had passed on, I firmly believe a cat or a dog makes a house a home).

    It's not that I don't like cats, I just have a lot of spare pillowcases and bricks.

    @Instography

    The proper attire for a cat is not a pillowcase (Ku Klux Kitty frightens no one) but a bebop hat.

    @IWRATS you mean those cats, with the bebop hats, they're living in the past.?

    See also SAHB and their cover of the leiber and stoller number Framed - then those cats with the rubber hoses started givin me the third degree (I believe this to be a masonic reference)

    After popping in at Alpine Bikes on Saturday I thought I'd stop by at the pussy cat place. Shutters down, so I presumed it wasn't doing weekends, then saw the "We have moved!" sign.

    If they have a Maine Coon in the new place, I may not want to go home again.

    @Arellcat:

    They had a Maine Coon there before; I'm assuming it's the same cats that will be in the new place. When we visited it was still quite a young kitten but was still a lot bigger than the other cats. He was gorgeous.

    We are convinced our old cat had at least some Maine Coon in him; he was huge and long-haired. He was an absolute stunner and shared a lot of the traits of the Maine Coon (friendly and followed us everywhere!). Sadly he died far too soon :-(

    We'll be visiting the cafe again at its new location.

    Reading up, I would like to note that I would absolutely go to a rat cafe! Pet rats are adorable, with their whiskery wee faces. But they would probably try to steal food from patrons (in fact, mine used to try and get their noses into a glass of beer or wine at any opportunity too).
