Two thirds of city-dwellers in Britain would support increased government investment in safe cycle routes, according to a new survey showing that voters in all parts of the country will react positively to candidates who pledge to improve cycling provision.

Actually they only surveyed people in English cities, but I'm sure Sustrans is about to do the same north of the border...

There's a whole lot of stuff that two-thirds of people support but that no political party proposes to implement, including nationalisation of rail and energy companies. Popularity of a policy seems to be a fairly poor metric for gauging its likelihood of being implemented.

The majority of people in this country supported the death penalty for a long time after it was abolished. I don't think this is a majority view now, though. I also don't know what point I'm trying to make!!!

Support for the death penalty was, I think, at 56% in Scotland in the last poll I saw.
