Going to have to go see someone at Ninewells. Helpfully the appointment letter gives details of how to get there by car.

This is what cycle streets suggests: http://edinburgh.cyclestreets.net/journey/43279729/

    any further advice?

Hopefully the route posted is a cycle path segregated from what will be very fast and busy expressway.

Never cycled it, but have been to Ninewells quite a bit over the last year and a half.

The path along the waterfront is good, and segregated from cars, and very well used any time I passed it. The route up through the estate is also mostly segregated from what I saw, but much narrower and on pavements which have just been designated as shared use.

There is also a wide shared use path which runs into the hospital, so cycle access from the train station is mostly good.

My experience of cycling to Ninewells consists of me getting the bus, looking out the window at the waterfront path and roads into the hospital and thinking 'I should have taken the bike; this would have been a uiece of urine'

I've used the waterfront path all the way to Invergowrie, at which point there's an underpass to the right. Take that, then cross the road at the other end (it's not usually busy). From there you can follow the signposted path which takes you up towards the hospital. You can then navigate round to the main entrance.
