I'm after recommendations for a place (shop or repair place) that will have a look at a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub gear. It is making an alarming rattling sound if I freewheel in 3rd/top gear.

The Bicycle Works sorted mine out quickly and were very reasonably priced.

Is it a Brompton SA?
There is a thin metal shield on the driver pawls which is known to be fragile.
It's not hard to mend an SA hub yourself. Hitting it with a drift to get the internals out can be a bit unsettling the first time. If it doesn't move hit it harder. Right hand thread.

There is more than one set of pawls in there. The ones you're looking at here are probably the ones in the driver. The thin metal shield is supposed to slide over and retract them when freewheeling but it is known to get bent.
I've not broken one but I've heard of people doing it.

I think Brompton were supplying them to people for free for the first couple of years after the BWR hubs came out. I don't have a BSR so I don't know if they're the same inside.
SA hubs are pleasant things to work on. Much nicer than derailleur systems.
