I saw a bonkers claim this week that widening cycle lanes would cause congestion. Did anyone else spot it. I can only find an older article in cycling weekly from November 2014 where some lunatics in Leicester make such an assertion.

I was in maryhill earlier in the week so could have been evening times but sure that was just all acid attacks and murders.

"widening cycle lanes would cause congestion"

Might do - but not a 'valid' reason not to do it.

In Edinburgh there are policies for increasing cycle use and reducing car use.

But there are also political pronouncements (and officer action) advocating 'smooth traffic flow'.

Apart from being mostly impossible, it conflicts with the more enlightened policies.

Not clear on the balance between 'lack of understanding' and 'saying different things to different people'.

    Ignorance, hypocrisy or just politics?
