An online survey of Evening News readers has revealed the city-wide scale of the problem, with key thoroughfares including Queen Street, Leith Walk and Nicolson Street all identified as pothole blackspots.

    What are the chances that
road surfaces aren't engineered properly to stand up to the daily barrage and volume of heavy vehicles and lighter vehicles
the companies doing the maintenance aren't given enough time to do the job properly
there is no post work inspection (judging by the repairs I have seen)
companies digging up the road don't return them to an acceptable standard.

not outside my house Paul. The road was dug up through the night for a week with massive machinery causing much noise and vibration. I fed back that the work could be done during the day as traffic light after 9a.m.. However, inspection of the work led to the boys from the blackstuff returning before Xmas and digging the road up again, still at night, same noise but not for the full week. I confess I had not noticed the imperfection in specific parts of the tarmac and indeed could have suggested bits elsewhere on the lanark road or through the main road at craiglockhart both heading west that are rough and push you out into beyond primary in search of a smooth surface. However, i do see that the work must be done to a spec and hats off to the roads team for holding the contractor to this. Just wish I had succeeded in convincing people that the work could be done during the day without much problem in my view (though perhaps the night time 7pm onwards was linked to staff availability????)

I think the council should be doing more to ensure roads are reinstated correctly after utilites, developers and events damage the infrastructure.

Soco development lines haven't been repainted and pavements haven't been repaired. who will pick up the tab?

St Andrew Square - we're aware of the state of the grass, but the pavement on the southside has been trashed by event vehicles. Who pays?

There's still a fair amount of tram related damage still to be fixed over a year after the works were completed. Check the pavement outside the Rutland. Again, who pays?

Trams removed the shared space signs for Russell Road pavement. Replacement signs will be paid for by South West division of the council
