In order to enable construction and lighting works to be carried out on the Loanhead to Gilmerton Cycle Route, it will be necessary to temporarily close this path between the City Bypass tunnel and Lasswade Road for safety reasons.

It is currently anticipated that the path closure will take place on Monday 23nd February 2015 for a period of six weeks.

    Sir/Madam,

Further to my email dated 13 February 2015, please find below an update on the Loanhead to Gilmerton cycle route project.

Following discussions with the contractor appointed to undertake the improvement works, it has been decided to delay the construction of the Lasswade Road section of the route until June 2015. Further information on the proposed traffic management arrangements (including details of road closures and diversion routes) will be available in advance of these works.

It is currently proposed to carry out the lighting works on the cyclepath along the disused railway line between Lasswade Road and Midlothian from Monday 23 March 2015. In order to enable the works to be carried out, it will be necessary to temporarily close this path between the City Bypass tunnel and Lasswade Road for safety reasons. Signage will be erected on the cyclepath in advance of the works to advise path users of the forthcoming path closure.

If you would like any further information on the Loanhead to Gilmerton cycle scheme, please do not hesitate to contact me using the details below.

The Council would like to apologise for any inconvenience which may arise during the works, and we will seek to minimise any disruption where possible.

    Regards,

@Uberuce Is this path still open?

I answered my own question: yes, it's still open and looking good even in the misty dusk. There's a couple of dodgy gates on the path - one which is next-to-invisible in low light and the other which must be difficult for most wheel transport.

One of the gates is open, ie off the path. The nonsense by the farm at the Roslin end is a pain in the bum for anyone not riding a geared upright.

Further to my previous email, we have confirmed with our contractor that the lighting works along the embankment, which will require the closure of the cyclepath between Lasswade Road and Midlothian, will now take place from Monday 13th April 2015. These works are expected to take approximately five weeks. Please see further information attached.

With regards the main cycleway construction works on Lasswade Road (between Gilmerton Station Road and Gilmerton Dykes Road), these will take place from late June 2015. Confirmed start dates and traffic management arrangements will be available in early June.
