No disrespect to Cambridge, Norwich, and Oxford, but they kind of struggle to justify the "major city" moniker.

    Alan Partridge might disagree.

Or £38m per year, for three years. The cities involved have a combined population of around 3.6 million (that's for the local authority areas - Greater Manchester and the area around Newcastle have pretty big populations).

So that's £10.55 per head of population, per year - for three years. Less than half of what Amsterdam spends annually on cycling per head of population - every year.

I reckon it's going to take a bit more than this to realise those £17bn savings to the NHS.

Approximately £1m more than Scotland's 5.3 million population will receive for cycling next year. Just imagine if the Scottish government made a firm commitment to spend that amount on cycling every year for the next three.....instead of the usual "oh, what baubees have we doon the back of the sofa?" approach...
