A £1 MILLION price tag has been put on urgently needed drainage works at 26 flood-prone parks and sports pitches across the Capital.

Around £500,000 has already been spent on improving 12 green spaces including the Meadows, Inverleith Park and Leith Links.

Wish they'd put some drainage on the canal towpath, particularly past the bypass out to Ratho and also on the path from Newbridge to Queensferry

Around £500,000 has already been spent on improving 12 green spaces including the Meadows, Inverleith Park and Leith Links.

But work is needed at a further 14 sites – among them Harrison, Union and Braidburn Valley parks – leaving the city facing an additional bill of around £500,000 to clear the backlog.

It wouldn't have taken a great deal of investigative journalism for the chipwriters to find out that it's only half a million pounds of work required. But then a meeelllion sounds much better in a headline.

I'm waiting to see what happens when the Leith Links cricketball club start trying to play on a pitch crisscrossed with half-filled trenches. At least they're still visible rather than half-hidden by grass regrowth.

Does the Meadows need "fixing", or should it former name, the Burgh Loch, inform management of its usage?
