MOTORISTS who park for free along some of the Capital’s busiest routes are set to be hit by new charges.

City transport bosses are to press ahead with plans to close a loophole which allows drivers to park without paying on Greenways bus lanes outwith peak travel times, even though parking charges apply in nearby side streets.

So you can you park in off-peak bus lanes, and it's free??

How long has that been going on?

I didn't think these were loopholes. I thought part of the "deal" between the new greenways and the local shops? Yes you'll have a new bus lane outside your shop, but your shoppers will be able to park outwith the core hours for free for 30 mins.

Seems they're not going to install new nearby ticket machines. Say on Dalry Road you'll have a fair walk to try and find a one.

I've never used the pay by phone stuff so no idea how well it works, although I have heard many stories for people who say they've paid and they still get tickets. They then have to go through the full appeals procedure to have the ticket rescinded.

  3. The parking app is good when it connects, but I'm often left with the swirling circle thingy.

I love how there are comments about it being better for cyclists not having to weave around parked cars. But YOU'RE NOT REMOVING THE PARKING!

Joining the dots between Fountainbridge's point and the side streets this could make matters worse too. Once they start charging parkers will presumably be able to park for as long as they are allowed in side streets rather than just half an hour.

That's assuming that there is sufficient enforcement to ensure people are only abandoning their vehicles for half an hour at a time.
