Edinburgh City Council is to deploy a two-man team to pre-empt expensive lawsuits by trawling the streets of the Capital in search of cracked pavements in need of repair.
"
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

A crack team?
Two men? For all of the pavements in the city? Uncracked pavements by 2132?
With the great many miles Edinburgh cyclist spend on the pavement maybe just fit them with cameras ;)
Every pavement is cracked isn't it? They won't need to do much scouring.
I hope they have a torch and remember to look underneath all the parked delivery-vans.
It won't be long before the team have stepped on a line and the council have a pair of broken spine safety in the workplace lawsuits on their hands.
Oh good. Well can they come down my street please? The pavement's as cratered as the surface of the moon.
Or do craters and bumps not count?
The council opens another front in the War On Drivers.
Or something like that. Not read the comments.
Bet they scour these streets by driving round them.
Scouring the pavement is probably what is causing the cracks in the first place. Brushing brings them up just fine without causing damage.
Two men/women on bikes with digital cameras could get the job done in the wink of an eye.....
Another waste of money as nothing will be done to fix them. They do the same with the roads and ignore the fact they are dangerous to cycle on.
I'd rather they introduced (or reintroduced) dog mess wardens. Its getting ridiculous round my way (Northfield/Mountcastle) again.
@Bikeability they do still exist, they are the Environmental and Community Safety wardens (the ones you occasionally see in town with black uniforms, red and yellow hiviz over a stab vest). They deal with low-level antisocial issues such as littering, cigarette butt dropping, fly-tipping and dog fouling and can hand out fixed penalty notices. I would start by reporting here;
Then follow up with an email or tweet to your local community team (East team for you I think) and/or community council. That should get a bit of attendance by the wardens. Repeated reporting should get follow-ups, better attendance etc.
Will they have a twitter account?
