"Police Scotland’s sale of the historic units attracted bids ranging from £35,550 to just £450, depending on the location. So far, £156,000 has been raised from the sale of 21 boxes, the proceeds of which will be pooled into resources for the national force."

That'll pay for around 11 hours of flight time for a police helicopter...

Out my way, that 11 hours of flight time has been spent and then some over the last week. Starting to feel like Benjamin L. Willard.

There's been fairly constant passes over our house this week, but they've only hovered near us once.

Apparently they are working on the recent rise in burglaries in the Edinburgh area.

Yes, I have noticed a great deal of helicopter activity recently. I wondered if it was another stolen motorbike.

A friend of ours tried to bid for one of the boxes but got outbid! I think this particular one went for a fair old sum.

The Police Scotlandcopter is leased off the England and Wales national air support unit as the one that crashed in Glasgow the other year has not yet been replaced.

So only slightly smaller than the box-room flats planned for Donaldson's.

Apparently the contract for helicopter services to Police Scotland is worth around £2.4 million per annum (search online, you'll find details). An FOI enquiry I found from a couple of years ago identified that the police chopper flies around 294 hours every three months. Multiply that by four, then divide £2.4 million by the resulting number. The resulting sum is the overall cost of buzzing around annoying peaceful residents and looking important.

The price probably reflects the fact that it was bought by a developer planning to convert it into luxury apartments..

Sorry, got my sums wrong (blame fatigue).

It's actually a whopping 76 hours of flight time for the cop chopper, which costs around £2,000 per hour to run.

A police helicopter has been in the area on a number of occasions over the past week to assist in planned operations.

Inspector David Happs moved to reassure locals about the use of the helicopter, describing it as a helpful asset to support police officers on the ground.

Cops on bikes would be cheaper - and perhaps more effective.

Drylaw police have used bikes at various times, not aware of 'current' use.
