  1. Oh so close, but no cigar for me.

Pretty simple to fit, but the bike I was fitting themto (my Peacemaker fixed) wasn't playing ball. Firstly, they attach with cable ties round the brake bolt, and I don't have one on the back. Simple solution, extra cable tie through the hole for the brake bolt, so sorted.

These 'guards are designed for low clearance, even stating in the video instructions that you might have to drop a wheel in order to fit it in, it can squeeze into THAT small a clearance. Except my front forks appear to have even less clearance than that. The rubbing was immense, and if I adjusted the stays so that it was only just rubbing the tail stuck out so far the toe overlap was hideous. I took off the tail extension, and still any turn beyond a slight bend and my geet would catch the guard.

All of which is to say that these are really well designed, and I think would be reasonably sturdy, though on a daily commuter I think they'd get knocked about a bit too much - I reckon they'd get misaligned quite easily.

So it's back to Raceblades for me, which don't give quite the same coverage (the new Roadracer rear 'guard especially is completely full length), but which are quicker to fit and don't foul the front wheel...

I had/have the original ones but the clearance is so tight that my fairly abused wheels with 23 tyres rub where the rim is not perfectly true. Took them off in the summer after a couple of months, they were fine need adjusted every now and again in use but the rubbing got on my nerves at times.

Crud support is excellent though you can get any parts replaced for the cost of a few stamps, i broke the front one trying to get it into the car but got a replacement blade for 6 large letter stamps.

    How are the race blades?

  3. The rear Raceblade I've never had an issue with - though the little rubber things that hold the stays in place are getting a little stretched, so it might be time to compare customer support. The coverage isn't as good as the Cruds, but it works. The front slightly less so - it's such a tiny 'guard, but still better than nothing.

And they are literally 60 seconds to put on and sort out, and 2 seconds to remove.

Still, with the Mark 2 I appear to have been quick out the gate, had a chap on the commute home on Wednesday asking me all about them as he'd just ordered a pair.

Biggest problem I've had with my Mk. IIs is that the front blade tends to "slap" the front tyre over any rough surfaces which is harmless but highly annoying.

I had a few issues fitting the Mk1s, but it turned out I was doing the zip-tie up too tightly. Once I backed off with that, they seemed to find a more accommodating shape which meant no rubbing unless I went through some really gritty puddles - which would result in a few minutes of noise while the grit worked its way out.
