BBC report says 'being treated for leg injuries'

    Also from BBC:

"The 40-year-old man was at the junction of Drumbrae Drive and Clermiston Road North when he was struck by a Nissan Note at about 08:30."

I'm assuming a driver was involved as well.

Hadn't realised driverless cars were available already. Interesting that the reports say that the cyclist was hit / struck by the car. Bit of a difference from the usual language "involved in a collision"

  5. Yep, it's very definite on the car hitting the cyclist and it not being a cyclist colliding with a car.

In purely pedantic grammatical terms, it was the car that hit the cyclist, physically; whereas it was the driver who was in control (or not as the case may be).

Thoughts with the cyclist of course amongst semantic deconstructions of media reporting. GWS.

I think this location has been mentioned frequently in the Rubbishing Driving thread.

(Although not sure exactly where this happened: the roads there are Clermiston Drive and Clermiston Road North).

Edit: sorry, reading fail by me.

Delighted to say I must have had my lucky pants on this morning as I have escaped with no broken bones - mighty sore leg and shoulder though. Most of my clothes including my good bike jacket and bike are wrecked :(

    Don't think I'll make pop either :(

oof. glad it wasn't worse. am sure you'll be even more sore tomorrow.

(Do hope you make it to POP though - there will be a crowd walking with a banner)

Thanks for letting us know you're (mostly) okay.

    @wicgf

Good that you are generally OK.

How's the bike... (Though I presume you said IT is wrecked!)

    Presume you'll tell more later.

Sorry to hear about the bike but glad that you have faired a bit better. I hope that you make a quick recovery and are able to get back on two wheels in time for the warmer weather.

I must admit to being very surprised that I didn't break my leg as it was absolute agony and sorer when I did break it years ago. Unfortunately I won't be able to walk very far for a wee while. However delighted I should be fine in about a months time as me and my wife are heading to milan to see my daughter.

@wicgf - glad to hear you don't have any serious injuries but I hope you recover well and fast, and are back on a bike soon. Sorry to hear about your current one though.

  13. Ouch! Glad you're (relatively) okay though. Sad news about the bike :(

Speedy recovery and hope that all the legal nonsense gets resolved quickly and that you get a sparkly new bike.

Ditto all the above (and congratulations on being the second news item on the BBC news Edinburgh site for quite a while).

I'm sure you could persuade someone with a cargobike to ferry you around PoP!

@wigcf, glad to hear you're mostly OK. I hope the insurance is fast enough to get a new (and faster) bike in time for you to finish recovering.

Unfortunately it sounds like you're going to spend a while wishing you could go at all, never mind faster.

If you are able to hobble a short distance you could always skip the ride/walk and join POP for the protest outside parliament itself.

    "Hope you get better quickly"

Small consolation is that you are likely to heal faster/better due to general (cycle related) fitness.

Glad to hear that nothing is broken. You're in a very similar situation to my accident last year from the sound of it. I wouldn't advise dealing with the drivers insurer alone. If you don't have British Cycling cover than wiggle are offering no win no fee with Digby Brown (the same lawyers covering my case) and they have been excellent. If the other party pays the legal fees then Wiggle are donating that to Sustrans

You sound very cheerful given the circumstances! I hope that attitude continues and helps you heal quickly. Sorry to hear about the bike, but glad to hear you aren't wrecked.
