I've noticed in the last few weeks that the number of bike icons on the NMW path has significantly increased, they seem to be every 20m now, you can't miss them. Same on MMW.

Has anyone noticed if less people walk into the cycle path now? I think I've noticed a difference.

I think less people do now on MMW. I'm glad the bike symbols are there. The real test will come in the summer, when hordes of visitors to Edinburgh wander all over the cycle paths.

I watched the guys paint these on a couple of weeks ago. Was surprised to see they didn't use a stencil but were doing them freehand with their tools. I bet the guy who did it dreamt of bike symbols for days afterwards!

Given how prominent the symbols are (to the point that I will weave around them when there is no oncoming traffic to enjoy a smoother ride), I am surprised by how often I find myself having to ring at/weave around a pedestrian, but I would probably agree that there are fewer people walking on these cycle lanes in general... As cc noted, however, the real test will come during the Festivals. I'm intrigued to hear that a stencil wasn't used and I wonder what that person wishes that they did for a job.
