EDINBURGH Airport will trial a new take off route that has the potential to double the number of planes using the city.

The route, which will be tested for six months from June 25, will see south-bound planes routed over Broxburn and Uphall, before turning east over the Forth, then south over East Lothian.

can you consider supporting the local residents who are against this?

  4. Does this new route for the commercial aircraft have a knock-on with slightly altering the routes of everyone else? Our house is virtually below the flightpath in Duddingston, which isn't really a problem as they're still pretty high, though we do occasionally get a surprisingly low pass, but the angles seem to have changed all over the place recently (and not just the usual that happens when the wind is particularly strong in a different direction).

We've also noticed the approaches over Arthur's Seat have changed, swinging west from in-a-Restalrig-village sort of a direction to a directly-over-out-flat sort of direction.

However thanks to the hill they're still pretty high and we've got the rumble of traffic on London Road and the trains held at the signal on the approach to Waverley to blot out the noise.

About 20-30 departures a day use the new route if the airport is on the Westerly runway. Otherwise there is no effect at all on any other flights. Imagination is a wonderful thing.

The public consultation into a controversial new Edinburgh Airport flight path was today extended for a week after officials admitted they had lost nearly 200 responses.

The airport said the blunder happened during a "planned upgrade" of the consultation website and it "apologised wholeheartedly".
