From the reports on Twitter it seems the bridge has actually been destroyed (edit: it's to be reopened to trains but may need replaced). The road through Newcraighall is closed as is the rail line to the Park and Ride. Not sure if NCN1/76 is affected but the road closure can be circumvented by riding round by Gilbertstoun and into Fort Kinnaird from the north.

Back open for rail, but will require "extensive repairs"...

The other picture on Twitter shows a small pile of bits of bricks in the gutter of the road beneath.

When this sort of thing happens (surprisingly frequently), I think what chance have pedestrians and cyclists got? Then I try to think about something else.

@SRD It probably came out of nowhere, as bridges are wont to do.

    Bad lorry.

If only they put human drivers in lorries to stop this sort of thing happening.

The spokesman for Network Rail said: “A large tipper lorry delivering to an adjacent construction site left the site with its body still raised and collided with the bridge, causing significant damage.
