Regular users will know that the tarmac towpath at Harrison Park has been replaced with a sort of loss chippings thing, which is appalling to cycle, scoot or push a buggy on.

MillarRichard: One of our busiest towpaths at Harrison Pk resurfaced and protected from bank erosion.@scottishcanals @SustransScot http://t.co/kB0ByIlPWo

I had queried it earlier, hoping it was something temporary. But it now seems permanent.

The best anyone's gotten out of the canal's people is 'we'll look into it'

MillarRichard: @fairlynuts @scottishcanals @SustransScot Ben many thanks for your tweet, I have asked the engs to look at this afternoon to improve/ sweep

Just seen a tweet saying that 3 cyclists have come off.

JarlathFlynn: Any idea why there are loose chippings on canal section. 3 fallers off bikes already @EdinBikeLanes http://t.co/U1XjuTzCJN

I saw the 'falling off' stuff on Twitter. Not saying it didn't happen, or that this surface is 'OK', but falls usually occur on turns. I wonder if this is happening when people join from the path by the Park?

Canal bank all neat and tidy. Towpath slightly wider but now awful surface. Link to Ogilvie Terrace just as stepped and rough as it was before, although it does now have yellow lines (see threads passim).

At least the Cyclist slow down signs in HP seem to have (mostly?) gone.

Apparently the contractor is coming back tomorrow to 'sweep' it again.

    thanks everyone who complained.

Gavin Corbett's just tweeted a pic of the path being swept. looks like an awful lot of grit coming off to me. raises questions about quality of contractors original work

They were busy sweeping the excess grit from the path as I cycled past at around 8:45 this morning - in fact, one of the workmen was *so* busy that he was barely allowing space for pedestrians and bicycles to make their way by.

Is the old "towpath upgrade" thread dead now? I posted the following there, but it didn't appear on the summary page:

The fencing by the towpath at the Boroughmuir High School site has been moved even further onto the path towards the metal chicane/cut through area now that work is presumably about to begin on the new 'park' area at that part of the site. I'm glad that I was leaving work early today so that it wasn't too busy when negotiating that section, although tomorrow morning is likely to be a complete nightmare...

Complete nightmare? Could be. On the other hand a small temporary traffic light for a not very big hole at the top of craiglockhart caused cars to queue all the way back to polwarth. Easy to jink in and out for about a mile. Would say that was a complete nightmare for drivers

    No.

    You were randomly spamtrapped.

More in the last day or so than the last month or so!

    Random...
