    Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice on how best to take forward a complaint against a city link bus.

    Date: 20 May 2015
    Time: 5:42pm
Location: Princess Street, Eastbound carriageway at junction with Lothian Road.
Event: I was waiting at the red light in the ahead only lane on Princess Street, waiting to cycle into Shandwick Place. My bike was positioned between the lane marking and the left tram track.
A city link bus (either 900 or 909, registration LSK 878) was beind me in and in the lane to my left. I was unaware of his presence untill he sounded his horn and jested, aggressively, for me to move over further to the right so that he could get passed and make the manouvre to turn left into Lothian Road. As I went to reposition my bike the bus came passed less that a foot from where I was then, as he swung the bus round, the overhang at the back connected with my bike.
The bus driver did not stop.

I look forward to any advise you can give me at this time. So far I have not contacted the police or city link.

    Kind regards,

    "

I'll pop over at lunchtime and see if there's any CCTV overlooking it. Were you right behind the eastbound stop line?
Don't know how interested the police will pretend to be without damage/injury, but ring them first and insist that having contact made by a large and heavy vehicle is unacceptable and that you want an incident number, all the better to quote to CityLink when you ring them (if you doubt their ability to respond promptly to emails). The bus might have warnings about backswing stuck to its rear, but you don't see those when it comes past you from behind. The sooner they get asked to review their CCTV the less convincingly they can claim to have lost it or to have no record of who was driving at the time.

not trying to be pedantic - but just for clarity - Westbound rather than Eastbound I presume?

not suggesting this excuses the bus driver's behaviour at all - but isn't it not legal to go straight ahead there?

@SRD: cyclists, buses and taxis can go straight on from Princes Street to Shandwick Place.

@SRD: you're maybe thinking of the restriction at West Maitland Street.

@stickman. quite right. i hardly cycle down that way anymore, since it's such a nightmare. had got it into my head that cycles couldn't go through at all. thanks for clarifying.

If a bus made contact with my rear wheel the whole bike would be straight into a repair shop for a checkup and re-trueing of the wheel. There's no way a wheel hit by a large vehicle won't be damaged.

If that makes the police report slightly easier, then so much the better.

There's a wee camera bubble by the RBS cash machines and one at the top of Tesco's door. The big one on a pole is pointing east along Princes Street.

Not that it makes any difference to the failing to stop after an accident.. Can we clarify that the OP was actually sitting in the straight ahead lane and not in the turn left to Lothian Road one?

That would be the straight ahead lane.

Citylink 900 route is now up Lothian Road to pick up from West Approach just below EICC and then turn right on link road to Morrison Street.

900 is operated alternately by Western Scottish and Parks of Hamilton, I've had bad trips with Parks and know of at least 2 occasions when serious breaches of Conduct Regs have taken place (one being filmed and making headlines in Daily Record). I usually try to get the Stagecoach operated coaches (or the Bruces M8 Express) for a more relaxed ride

Citylink is a joint venture between Stagecoach (small staff based in Glasgow) and Comfort DelGro (Singapore). Most of the coaches are contracted in livery from various suppliers (name and address of operatro on left side in 1" block lettering (legal requirement)

LSK registrations are 'vanity plates' that Parks uses on their fleet.

If you were hit and damage/injury then Section 170 RTA 1988 applies s.170.2 and s.170.3 relevant.
