Sheriff Frank Crowe fined Haddow £200 and told him: “You may not think it’s an offence but if you cycle through a red light at night when you have had something to drink, if you are knocked down or injured by another vehicle, the focus is on the driver, but if you don’t comply with the rules of the road, then it is likely this will happen. Police officers were right to take you aside.”

Oh FFS, could there be a clearer statement of 'it's always the driver who gets blamed, you cyclists never suffer any consequences'? The very fact he was in court and being fined by the very man making the statement kinda proves he's speaking nonsense.

Thing is, he probably would have been ordered to push the bike home and sent on his way with a stiff warning (or at worst a spot fine) if he hadn't been obstreporous with the Poli.

Maybe it means we have finally found the one sheriff who actually genuinely does put the focus on the driver? :-o

"At last a chance to put paid to those pesky cyclists"

Imagine them rubbing their hands together behind the wheels of their bullet proof Volvo S80s

"Police Scotland figures revealed that 193 riders were responsible for paying almost £6000 in fines for traffic offences in 2012-13."

It's a war on cyclist I tell you. Just a money making scheme. Etc.

    Sheriff Frank Crowe has form...

Van driver distracted by paperwork knocked down an 11-year-old boy as he cycled home from school.

The schoolboy suffered a cracked skull and spent two weeks in a medically induced coma.

Sheriff Crowe said he accepted it had been a momentary lapse of concentration.

He said: “I understand you had a new job and you were driving and keeping to a schedule."
