  1. Had an idea for a trailer with some stuff I've got kicking around the garage, but in need of a medium-ish size box, preferably metal (like those lightweight aluminium ones used with shaped foam for carrying fragile stuff).

    Anyone got anything lying around?

How big is "medium sized"? I assume an old biscuit box is waaaay too small?

Without knowing what you're schemeing up, I can recommend big and cheap plastic storage boxes (I got mine in Poundstretcher). It's tough and lightweight, easy to drill holes through to fix it to things and won't sound like you're cycling around with a bass drum behind you.

Easily reinforced with some external woodwork; handily my trailer already has a plywood loadbed so I just bolted it through that with some big washers to spread the load across the plastic.

P.S. I know you'll probably be thinking "If I'd wanted a big plastic box I would have asked for one!", but it's just a thought ;)

Give ruggtomcat a shout to see where he got the metal things for the back of his trailer.

  5. @fimm, I was trying to get away without getting a measuring tape and scientifically working out proper size ;) But aye, biscuit tin somewhat wee.

@kaputnik, was wondering about that as a solution, and possibly have some reinforcing stuff I could use, but pondering a rather 'simple' solution (on which I'm not posting anything till I know if it works and I won't look a muppet).

@wingpig, grand idea! I think that's exactly the type of thing I'm after.

  7. That. Might. Work.

Did you have an idea of how much you were after on eBay?

you can have both for a tenner if that suits you

their not in their prime of youth but they`re not dented or anything just covered in old bits of packing tape , shipping labels etc.

    cheers

  9. I can call that a deal - if they're not quite right there are a couple of uses I can put them to in the garage anyway. Would probably be Monday before I could collect if that works for you? Or any other day during the week, I can work around you. If you want to bung me a PM....
