  3. Gah!

Great sprint by Greipel, but Etixx clearly didn't know what to do with Renshaw only there to lead out Cav. Winnings. From 350m out when the lead out swung off was never going to happen with Greipel and Sagan on your wheel.

Add in the soap opera there might be in the team bus Vos if Cav hadn't sat up and held onto 3rd instead of Fabian then Cav's team mate Tony Martin would be in yellow and.... Well it's an interesting start to the Tour...

Tejay should have been smashing that as most of his team was there. Should have added two minutes. So two teams tactics to pot.

Froome needs to get that ring out of his nose that will slow him. Down on hills

Oh. It's a ring is it? I thought it was a bogie & I was trying not to look at it.

  6. Hahahaha!

I just can't warm to Froome, and can't stand Contador. Nibbler's alright, but I really want Quintana to do well, fingers crossed today won't have hurt him too badly.

  8. Wow, just switched on coverage to have in the background while I work, and appears the stage has been neutralised at the moment by the race officials after two massive crashes.

  9. Good grief, Lars Ten Dam dislocates his shoulder in the crash, pops it back in, gets back on the bike...

Similarly impressed by that. Cancellera is struggling.

did anyone have rodrigues on velogames? don't recall seeing him...could really shuffle the results around (yes, this should be on the fantasy thread but worried about spoilers there...)

    Posted 8 years ago #
  12. I think there was a warning on that thread that there might be spoilers.

But no, certainly not me, but I've got Froome, so that helps. Have gone with the wrong Lieutenant though, went for Porte rather than Thomas (though Porte is probably more help in the mountains). Should get points for Quintana as well.... Hurrah!

Switched on for the last 5km. Just watched the crash footage as well. Absolutely crazy crash.

Last few KM was very exciting too. Look forward to watching the highlights later.

I'm relying on Quintana, Nibali and Cavendish for points, and have also made the Porte-over-Thomas mistake. Compounded by the lack of Froome.

chdot, can we have a thread-title spoiler warning on the velogames thread as well?

  19. Today's stage is one of the main reasons I added Lars Boom - 7 sections of pavé, the longest being the second last at 3.7km alone! Race director reckons it's not as tough as the sections they had last year, but could still sort out a lot of riders.

Nibali was superb over them last year, whereas Froome might be a bit lightweight, suspect Thomas will be tasked with looking after him again. Quintana will be interesting to see (apparently he did a recce or two in March, I think he's a bit worried about this too.

Cancellara had been listed in the guide as a favourite for this stage :(

Should be great today - although a headwind should keep a lid on things to some extent. Clouds of dust everywhere...

I really hope Tony Martin smashes it and gains at least a few seconds, maybe even more, on Froome and co. Would be great to see him in yellow. Apparently, although he's got the power for riding the cobbles, he doesn't like the argy bargy and fighting for position. Clearly he's just going to have to ride off the front right from the start of the bumpy stuff.

Spent most of the afternoon sitting in Paris traffic. Got to my hotel room, lunged for the remote. What a fab end to the stage.

Here's Tony Martin's thoughts on that finish: "After having a flat tyre and changing bikes I was thinking about the next stage. But I got back in and with 5km remaining everybody was looking round and not pulling so I went for it. A thousand thanks for my team. I am super happy."

  28. Cav came into this Tour with so much form, but Greipel is just eating him up - and Sagan's pace to get 2nd was astonishing. The Etixx train isn't working at all at the moment, Renshaw lost Cav completely.

That was a messy messy sprint. Cav seemed to go for it because he could see a way out of being boxed in, but it was too soon into a headwind and he just doesn't seem to have the leg speed of Greipel or Sagan (the speed of him in the last 40 metres!) at the moment. He did have a long chase on after a puncture today though, so that may have drained his legs a bit. Interesting times...

    Posted 8 years ago #
  30. Surely has to be Sagan today with the kick up in the last km. Can't see the break staying away....
