I had the misfortune to be in my car for the first time ever during rush hour in Edinburgh. It was mad. Queues and queues everywhere until I got up towards the bypass. lots of tailgating when I was "only" going the speed limit as well.

  4. Ah, that explains the cones I saw last night with a late evening meander on the bike.

Probably see folk cutting through using Mountcastle Drives North and South, but there are four way traffic lights at the main crossroads between them too. Hah!

The photo has a sign that says "3 weeks". The Evening News says "will last for five weeks".

    Who is lying?

There's been an explosion in a cone factory along Gorgie Road as well. I've no idea what they're doing - several little holes rather than one big one.

Does anyone know why they've started separating two lanes of traffic with cones? Do they not trust drivers not to drive into oncoming traffic? It is a major pain on a bike because you have to take the lane, while if the cones were not there and there isn't any oncoming traffic then there would be space for a car to overtake safely.

It's a convention derived from motorways, surely? Also known as 'contraflow'.

But yeah, why it is necessary on roads that are two-way anyhow is....anyone's guess!

    What is this disruption?

"Over the five-week period, a section of the city-bound lane on Willowbrae Road will be closed, with traffic diverted into the southbound side of the road.

Southbound traffic will not be able to turn right into the Tesco garage or the Lady Nairne hotel during this time, but northbound traffic can turn left into both. Cars leaving the garage or hotel will only be able to turn left.

SGN also warned there will be no access to Northfield Broadway from Willowbrae Road for northbound traffic travelling towards the city, while the junction of Willowbrae Road with Paisley Drive will be closed."

WOW! MAJOR DISRUPTION EVERYONE! NOT AT ALL A STORM IN A TEACUP.

Also: "Community figures urged drivers to “avoid the area where possible” and warned the upheaval could impact
negatively on local businesses."

    SO IT MUST BE CHAOS!
